ÉGLOMISÉ PANELS
APPLYING THE VERRE Églomisé technique TO LARGE PANELS CREATES A SHOWSTOPPING DECORATIVE FEATURE IN YOUR HOME
AN HISTORIC DECORATIVE TECHNIQUE
Verre Eglomise is a French term that translates to ‘glass gilded’ deriving from Jean-Baptiste Glomy, an 18th-century French decorator and art dealer.
During this ancient, versatile process, gold and silver leaf are applied to the rear face of the glass to produce a mirror finish. This process can be combined with painting and screen printing techniques to apply decorative illustrations.
This technique is traditionally used for decorative glass, such as wall mirrors. This process is laborious and time-consuming, requiring much attention and care.
The handmade nature and drying process creates a beautiful, inherent texture in the glass, which changes depending on the angle from which you view it. A multitude of colours can be achieved through the use of various precious metals and pigments.
